Belated Xmas tidings and more...

Hello all, well first off, Happy Belated Christmas to all! Second, wow I haven't posted anything on here since the 8th. Third, it's almost the new year. Are you guys ready to bring in 2009 yet. I sort of am, kinda... Anyway just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas (or other respective holiday) and to kinda report on some of the things I've play since the 8th. Well to start off: LittleBIGPlanet, what more can I say. I've been addicted to to the game since it came out and of course with all the DLC they put out for it, it's kind of hard to stay away. Got the Christmas stuff 2 weeks ago and then the Metal Gear Solid 4 pack (worth the whole $11.98 I payed for it) last week, both of which were amazing. Picked up the new Prince of Persia game with some trade-in credit I had from Gamestop. Also a very good game. Very simplistic and not to frustrating. Has one the most immersive and beautiful game worlds I've seen, so kudos to you Ubisoft Montreal. And with today I picked up Fallout 3. So far so good, I'm liking it, even though I just left Vault 101. For those of you who don't know, that's basically the beginning of the game. So yeah, all is well in the land of cbreem right now. How are you guys doing?

In case you missed out. New LBP costume!

Just in case you missed it, and I know I'm super late with this one, but the Kabuki costume is now available for download. Best of it's FREE!!! WOO!!! Anyway go to the PlayStation Store to download this killer costume, and more!

Like: The Sack Eating Plant and the Sack in the Box!

Chrono Trigger = AMAZINGS!

So, been playing Chrono Trigger DS for the past couple days. Just got to 12,000 B.C. and I have to say that this game is still, to this day, one of the most epic games I've ever had the good grace of playing. Gone is the lagginess of the PSOne version, yet all the extras remain, something I'm very happy with. The anime cutscenes rock the shit. All in all, I've gotta say this purchase was well justified for me. And in case you were wondering, my friends are still giving me shit for the purchase. Oh well, to each his own I guess. So I'm off to play more Chrono Trigger! You should go buy it to. DO IT!!!!!

i have a Playstation! ...but why?

Exclusive games are always a fun debate between systems and its really hard to not run into a fanboy or 2 when discussing this or even turn into a fanboy yourself at times. its always a hard question to answer and it usually takes looking at a list of games or at a case of games in a store or even your own library of games to get a good argument going. but i think that's the problem, it shouldnt be an argument because its all a matter of opinion.

the phrase " _____ video game system has no games" gets thrown around a little to lightly and is taken too seriously as an absolute. the point usually missed when someone utters that famous line is, the fact that is just 1 persons opinion and doesn't mean there are literally no good games on that system. we are well into each of the big 3's current gen life cycle and that phrase does not apply to any system. all 3 have good (in terms of quality made) games... weather or not you like them is up to you, but you cant deny the effort and quality put into games like Mario Galaxy, Gears of War, and Uncharted.

so lets break it down, why do you have a _____ or maybe you don't have one yet at all, what would you pick? based on exclusive games alone. here are a couple good lists, im sure there are a few missing but its a good example. ( for now were going to compare just the 360 and Ps3)

Xbox 360 Exclusives (right click and open in a new window)

Playstation 3 Exclusives (right click and open in a new window)

now you can just briefly look at each the page and tell that the 360 has more exclusive games and its a fact that Microsoft and their loyal followers love to tout, which its a fair and valid fact. the flip side to it is that even though there is more games, does that mean there are more "quality games"? or more games that "YOUR" into? i mean that Yaris racing game looked pretty epic ... then agian the PS3 had its share of "misses" as well.

for the sake of science and video games ill conduct this test on myself... and after carefully reading each list this is what i came up with...

360:

Crackdown
Dead Rising (technically its an exclusive since the wii version is gonna be watered down)
Fable II
Forza Motorsport 2
Geometry Wars
Worms 2007

Honorable mention:

Forza Motorsport 3 - 2 really didn't knock my socks off and as soon as i pop Gran Turismo in i completely forget about forza. the paint shop in 2 is fun to mess with and the online is good but i don't think i would have a need for forza 3.
Halo 3 - im on the fence about this, i still think halo 1 was the best, while 3 is better then 2 i dont know that its better enough to warrant my $60
Gears of war 1 & 2 - these would be a rental for me, id like to play through them but i cant get "into" them, i played gears 1 a lot at my Buddy's but like i said i just cant get into it.
Bomerman Live - i want this but there is a version coming to the PSN
Lumines Live - i want this but there is a version coming to the PSN
Beautiful Katimari - shouldn't be on that list since its getting a PS3 release, and i will probably buy or at least rent it .
RPG's - Lost Odyssey, last remnant, infinite undiscovery, blue dragon ext.... they all look cool but i have a limited attention span for rpgs and its usually filled by Final Fantasy games I'm sure id rent these games and try them but from what I've played and read i don't think id pay $60 for them?

---

PS3:

Final Fantasy XIII Verses
God of War III
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Gran Turismo 5
Heavy Rain
LittleBIGPlanet
Metal Gear Solid 4
Ratchet & Clank Future : Tools of Destruction
Ratchet & Clank Future : Quest for Booty
Ratchet & Clank (2009)
Resistance 1
Resistance 2
Socom: Confrontation
Super Stardust HD
Twisted Metal (2009)
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Wipeout HD

Honorable mention:

Afrika - this looks really interesting, i liked the idea of Endless Ocean i just didn't think it was executed well so hopefully this comes out pretty good (fun) because it seems kinda similar.
Infamous - this looks like it might be my Crackdown fix, but i don't know enough about to honestly say I'm gonna buy it. from what I've seen it looks cool.
Killzone 2 - I'm on the fence on this because I've already played this at E3, it was really good but it was no COD4.. but then again i only played it for 10mins... soooo i donno i need more research before id say its a buy?
Warhawk - i got this for free, its fun i play it sometimes but i donno if i would have actually bought it?

---

so clearly there are more games on the Playstation 3 that I "personally" would be more willing to give up $60 for, so with that data we can now calculate which system is better suited for my gaming type...

112 x 3 - 443 + 94 / 2... carry the 5 .. and = Playstation 3!

how bout that apparently i made a good guess when i bought my PS3? ... or maybe i just look into the future of what games are coming out and made by decision on the games? your out come of this should be totally different ( if not, quit jockn my style foo!) because we all have different taste in games. if only everyone could just take this test themselves make an educated decision and understand that even though you picked System A, System B still has good games on it... you just like more of System A's games so you went with that and that its OK for someone else to rather have System B.

... or you could just buy all 3 and tell everyone to fuck off?

Street Fighter battles it's way into LBP!

Hot on the heels of the recently released Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (or SSF2THDR) comes the annoucement of SF Sackpeople! Yes, Street Fighter looks to be the latest 3rd party IP's in the LBP lineup (the first 2 being MGS4 hero Old Snake and FFVII villain Sephiroth). Me thinks I sense a $2.99 price tag for each of these costumes.

Seems Re:CoM has a glitch! Causes me to cry!

If you didn't know Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories (or Re:CoM) came out today for the PS2. The game itself is a remake of 2004's Chain of Memories for the Gameboy Advance. Seems the game has a glitch of unplayable proportions if playing on the PS3 (any model supposedly), in my base an MGS 80GB. I'm not worried though as I have a perfectly good PS2, but be warned if your an owner of only a PS3. The glitch happens very early on in the game's first tutorial. it simply doesn't let you continue. One work around has been found however, if you have a save past the first tutorial, the game should play fine. My condolences to those who can't play..... yet anyway.

The ways of LBP! (timing and the chicken suit)(and a sad note)

Ah LittleBIGPlanet. The game that's so addicting, yet so frustrating. Just played about a solid hour of it, all of which fareo spent editing his mysterious level. Alas I have unlocked the chicken suit, which is amazing I might add, as I coupled it with the stained white cotton sack material. Yes, yes, yes so addicting. Going through "The Temples" without dieing a single time was fairly simple, a feat about a week ago I would've told you was impossible. A couple of days ago I shelled out 3 bucks to get the LocoRoco (a game of which I haven't played) costumes (the costumes of which are awesome). This is gonna get ridiculous with the amount of money I'm gonna spend on this game's DLC! Again with a reference to fareo, but as he says "It's starting to become like Pokémon, you gotta collect 'em all."

And on a sad note, one of my closest friends was admitted to the hospital today. They moved him to the E.R. and he is currently in the ICU, after recieving surgery. That's the story as I know it, but I'm so concerned. My thoughts and prayers go to him.

I love my local Gamestop. (well kinda sorta?)

No, it's not because I like the "great" trade in values. It's because the employee's at this specific Gamestop rule all. They are great people, for reals, no foolies I swear. Went in to see if they had recieved Chrono Trigger DS yet, but alas they did not. Knowing the store I work at wouldn't likely be getting it I shamelessly pre-ordered the day before it comes out. :C I feel dirty, but I get my game tomorrow and I get a pre-order soundtrack. WOOT! And on my way out one of the clerks (shout out to her) gave me a couple of gifts. So if said employee ever reads this post on this blog, my thanks to you miss, I owe you 2.

My first "official" post. (about my systems)

Well now... so it starts. My technical first blog gig if you will. So I want to tell you lil' bit 'bout my consoles and gaming interests. This should be filed under random. So to start I own 8 different gaming units. From Sony: PSOne, PS2, PSP, and PS3 and from Nintendo: GBA (both original and SP), DS, Gamecube, and a Wii. The only one(s) I don't own are the Microsoft consoles, but we'll get into that later.

As far as software goes I own a bunch of it. To much for my own good, as I rarly give myself time enough to finish the games I buy. Speaking of that, can't wait to get Chrono Trigger DS this week! See what I mean. Currently I am backtracking a lil' bit in Final Fantasy XII, trying to get at least the main story finished up. Hopefully I'll start playing some of my older games I need to finish, but I think my recently purchased Tomb Raider: Underworld is next up on my list.

The genres of games I play varies, RPG's and Action games mostly. But recently my friends and fellow posters (fareo, Lego Maniac, and james) got me into the platforming mood for LittleBIGPlanet. Also I blame fareo for my new found love of Rock Band 2, of which he lent me his copy of 1 to get all the songs. Thanks for that ;D Anyway getting kind of late, so I think that'll be it for me tonight. Peace and g'night all.

Speaking of...

The new "members" is here. In all seriousness, I'm glad to join my friends on this blog and hope to post my views on games, the industry, and pretty much anything else on my mind. As the previous post says stay tuned for further posts, and hopefully a podcast.

REBOOT!

its been about a year since yfvgs was sorta abandon for reasons that... well it was a lil bit of mix match schedules and laziness either way the blog is now getting a reboot with NEW! members! stay tuned for yfvgs 2 : with a vengance! ;)

Fuck you digital distribution

so as of a few minutes ago Warhawk became available to download via the PSN for a cool $39.99. the more i look at it the more i realize that, i dont really have to pay for it. all i have to do is hit a couple buttons and bam! im flying the unfriendly skys. its really that simple, so simple that im hovering over the send button right now... and now im starting to figure out what Satan's real plan is.

the whole digital cash flow thing started with credit cards, debt cards, check cards, target cards, club cards, and so forth it became easier to buy things. no more do you have to actually see the money go away! it was as easy as sliding a card, and bam thats yours... want a new 50'' TV? all you gotta do is just slide a card though this machine and its yours. who wouldnt do that??

over time sliding a card became the standard and now people see it as money. so your less likely to buy something if you have to actually physically hand "something" to someone. then online shopping started and it became even easier, you just punch in your numbers once and you can hit the "buy" button all day, the items are delivered to your door step and you never have to leave your dark damp cave you call a home.

but no, that wasnt enough. now all you have to do is punch in you card once when you start your acount, as before, then you just click on what you want and there is no waiting for it to arive on your door step... oh no... it just downloads onto you harddrive, no box to open, no disc to put in, you dont even have to get up off your lazy ass... you just click the icon and your playing.

its evil i tell you... i have to keep yelling in my head "ITS REALLY GONNA TAKE $40 (OF REAL MONEY) OUT OF YOUR ACOUNT AND YOU DONT HAVE THAT MUCH TO SPEND... DONT BE STUPID!!!!" to keep my self from making the mistake ive made with smaller purchases, like Super Mario Bros (Wii)... which was really dumb considering i have a cartrage and NES over there and a ROM of it right here, and now a Wii version of it to my right.....

so i advise you to buy games in person with cash, dont get caught up in the digital world.. becasue it only has one ending and that ending is debt... and there aint no cheat codes to save you from debt :(

In your face flea market vendor guy!

so Moth, Lego Maniac and i all decided to go to our local flea market today. you never know what kinda of treasures you may find in a wasteland like that... a used 1974 makita power drill? $4? yes! thank the heavens my search is over!.. ehm .. but seriously sometimes this is a good place to dig up rare and classic games.

theres a regular videogame vender out there who has a pretty vast selection of quality wares, but unfortunitly he knows what there worth, so its almost point less to buy from this guy... you might as well get that one on ebay thats "only been played once!" for the same price.

so i was was checking out his ps1 games and bam! Bushido Blade 2, man oh man, it has been years since ive played this game but damned if i didnt love it back in the day. it was one of thoughs games that you rented like 11 times but never bought, even though you should have.

so with that said i asked the (what seem to be tge 15yr son of the owner) to check it out, quickly i noticed the $15 asking price and promply denied, knowing that i could get a better quailty copy of that from anywhere else for that price. sadly we had to move on and leave my dreams of reliving the sword swinging wonder that is Bushido Blade...

so we crusied the entry slew of Foakelys, Mighty Super Stong Rangers, Corndogs and Beer. we were about to leave, but deiced to take one last look... at the 2nd to last stop there was some old asian guy that barly spoke english that had 5 PS1's on a table and a box with about 10 games in it... i figured it would be 9 copys of madden 1998 and 1 spyro.. but sure as shit, Bushido Blade 2!?!

"sweet" i said with excitment and then i proply changed my attitude to a "meh whatever" as i asked (and expected to haggle) the price... "$3" ... SOLD! ... its got no box or booklet, but did i really wanna pay $12 more dollars for booklet? fuck that who reads those anyways? the disc looked fine it was in a clear case to carry it home in, as long as it plays im happy.*

long story short, patience is a virtue... not jumping on the first sighting of a game that ive been looking for saved me $12. also i dont think there is any other PS1 game that can still hold my interest like this one does 10 years later. if you have never played Bushido Blade 2 and you see it at a garage sale, flea market, local game shop for $5, get it!... it will be $5 well spent.

*plays fantastic, no skips glitches or anything. the disc looks like it could be resurfaced to new condition.

A Thank you is in order.

So in my brief skim over ign this evening i found something that actually caught my eye the trailer for the new hitman movie coming out. A thanks is in order to the people making this almost decent looking game movie. That thanks is for not casting hunky mchunk vin diesel... that would have been too easy if you ask me. Giving this new guy a chance seems like it's going to make a better picture, focus more on the movie instead of the actor.

holla.

Smash is getting my game of the year nod.

Take a glimpse over at the dojo for one of the best hype video i've seen for awhile. It is making my wiisports box finally get it's hopes up that someday i will touch it again. :[

(unless they release Super mario RPG: Legend of the seven stars, then it will get touched quite frequently)

Hal is doing it right once more which makes me think has Hal ever screwed up? Maybe Ghostbusters II but i'll let it slide just cause i'm assuming it sucked and never took time to really "understand" Ghostbusters II.

Holla, by the way sorry for all the wiki links just want people to know what i'm talking about!

Im like a fat kid

when it comes to Need For Speed im like a fat kid... you know you really shouldn't eat that pie, but you really really want a pie... and if you eat it, you will feel happy for a second and then it will just collect as useless fat in your belly... but you just cant stop eating them for some reason...

i know i shouldnt get NFS ProStreet becasue it will only satisfie my "need for speed" for a moment and then it will just sit on the shelf with carbon, most wanted, underground 1 and 2 collecting dust...

i buy this game every year hoping for that fun and excitement i had back in the PS1 days. When NFS put a smile on my face, the size of a tire. But every year im let down..."so go get a different game you would say?" ... and i say... "then what?" everything thing else on the market that offers this type of arcade/sim style racing sucks as well... this is just the lesser of the evils ...

im almost depressed becasue i know im gonna waste $60 again and theres no way of stopping it, untill something better comes out... and the fact that i keep buying this crap makes EA think that its "ok" to just release crap becasue, "figures show that people will buy crap so, why bother try? when we can not try for the same money?" ...
